Professional Services & Consulting
Vendor-agnostic strategic IT advice from engineers who have run the systems.
IT strategy, technology roadmaps, IT health checks, project management and digital transformation.
Sound Familiar?
Consulting work usually starts at a decision point — something needs deciding, building or untangling, and the internal answer is "we don't have time for this":
- You're being asked to sign off a significant technology decision, relying entirely on the vendor selling it.
- There's a project that needs doing and nobody internally has the time or the specific experience.
- Your IT has grown by accretion over years and nobody has stepped back to look at it as a whole.
- You have a budget conversation coming and no roadmap to justify what you're asking for.
- Everyone is talking about AI and you don't know what's genuinely useful for a business your size.
- The last consultant produced a strategy document that has been in a drawer ever since.

How we approach consulting work
Our consulting standard opens with a principle we hold to: business before technology. The technical answer only matters once the business question is clear.
Business before technology
We start with what the business is trying to do, what it's constrained by and what it can realistically absorb — then work out what technology serves that. The reverse order is how organisations end up owning platforms nobody uses.
Advice you can interrogate
Recommendations are based on your requirements, and we'll tell you plainly where our own technology standards and support capability have influenced a recommendation. You should always be able to ask why, and get an answer that isn't a brochure.
We can also do the work
Strategy and delivery in the same place. Server deployments, cloud and Microsoft 365 migrations, network and firewall implementations, Active Directory upgrades and infrastructure refreshes — so the plan doesn't need translating for a third party who wasn't in the room.
Deliverables written to be used
Assessment reports, technical designs, roadmaps, risk assessments and project plans, written for the person who has to act on them. A document that only an engineer can read has failed at its job.
Frequently asked questions
What does an IT assessment actually produce?
A documented view of your current environment, the risks and constraints we found, and a prioritised set of recommendations with an indication of sequence and effort. Enough for you to make decisions and build a budget from — not a generic maturity score.
Do you only recommend products you sell?
We maintain technology standards, and we'll say so openly when a recommendation aligns with them — standardising on platforms we know well is part of how we keep environments supportable. Where your requirement genuinely points elsewhere, we'll tell you, and we'd rather do that than support something badly. If a recommendation ever seems driven by what's convenient for us, ask, and you should get a straight answer.
Can you help us work out what to do about AI?
Yes, and usually the most valuable early work is readiness rather than deployment. AI tools surface whatever a user can already reach, so permissions and data governance matter before licences do. We run readiness assessments, help with AI policy and governance, and plan adoption — including the honest conversation about which parts are worth it at your size.
We have internal IT. Is consulting still relevant?
Often more so. Internal teams usually know exactly what's wrong and lack the time, the specialist depth in one area, or the external voice needed to get a decision made. We work alongside internal IT rather than around them, and we're happy for the recommendation to be one your own team executes.
How do you scope and price project work?
We scope before we price. That means understanding the requirement, the constraints, the dependencies and what "done" looks like, then giving you a defined scope with the assumptions written down. Where something genuinely can't be scoped up front, we'll say so and propose a smaller piece of discovery work first rather than guessing at a number.
